Results announced from Jingle Bell 5-K held on WCU’s campus

The second annual Jingle Bell 5-K race, sponsored by Western Carolina University’s Sport Management Association and held on the WCU campus Tuesday, Nov. 4, raised more than $1,100, organizers said.

Proceeds will be equally divided between the Sport Management Association’s Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Trooper Shawn Blanton Jr. Memorial Fund.

Refreshments for the runners were donated by Harold’s Supermarket, Food Lion and Wal-Mart.

The overall male winner was Brian Edwards, with a time of 18:16. The first female was Kristie Bowers, with a time of 20:59.

Males: 12 and under – First, Spenser Marino, 38:58. 13 to 17 – First, Neil Butcher, 20:42; second, Dorran Howell, 25:29; third, Matt Turpin, 26:13. 18 to 25 – First, Zach Gilgen, 22:13; second, Garrett Tandy, 22:37. 26 to 39 – First, Andrew Hall, 22:16; second, Kirk Marino, 38:59. 40 to 49 – First, Brad Knops, 18:23; second, Jay Scifers, 21:49. 50 to 59 – First, Andrew Smith, 22:40. 60 to 69 – First, Damian Dirscherl, 26:26; second, Tom Baker, 31:42. 70 and over – First, Jim Hamilton, 42:10.

Females: 13 to 17 – First, Sara Larcher, 34:15. 18 to 25 – First, Jennifer Veilleux, 24:40; second, Megan Smith, 25:30. 26 to 39 – First, Gabrielle Maggi, 21:56; second, Tammy DeCesare, 23:04. 40 to 49 – Edith Callahan, 31:04. 50 to 59 – Ruby Banerjee, 38:31; Susan Metcalf, 38:31. 60 to 69 – First, Hiddy Morgan, 32:06. 70 and over – First, Peggy Spilker, 42:11.
