Western Carolina University’s Outdoor Summer Fun Series will feature “Hike with a Botanist” Thursday, July 17, as participants will spend the day on a leisurely hike with one of the university’s botany experts to learn about plant identification and the Appalachian ecosystem.

“Western North Carolina is situated in one of the most diverse temperate zones on this planet,” said Susan Fouts, director of continuing education at WCU. “This workshop will help area residents and visitors learn more about the incredible diversity of plants in our area.”

Cost of the workshop is $55. Children ages 10 to16 may participate at a discount rate with an accompanying parent. Children under age 10 may participate with prior permission from the hike leader.

The hike is limited to the first 12 registrants.
