Western Carolina University and the town of Sylva will host a Recycled Fashion Show that is free and open to the public on Monday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. in WCU’s Niggli Theater.
The fashion designs, created by Western theater students, will be made entirely out of recycled and reusable materials.
Awards will be given for the clothing designs, and some of the apparel will be raffled. All proceeds and donations accepted at the door will be directed to the town of Sylva to provide recycling bins for residents who cannot afford them.
The fashion show will be run by WCU students and faculty and is part of a semester-long campaign headed by four public relations students from Assistant Professor Debra Connelly’s public relations campaigns class. The students have been working with the town to promote awareness and participation in the town’s recycling program. The students also will host an information table about the recycling program at the Greening Up the Mountains festival in Sylva on Saturday, April 28.
