Photographer Mike Smith will present a free public lecture about his work in a program at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Western Carolina University in Room 130 of the Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Smith, a professor of photography at East Tennessee State University, is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. His work is represented in the permanent print collections at museums around the nation, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His photographs can be found in his book “You’re Not from Around Here: Photographs of East Tennessee.”
During his visit to WCU, part of the Visiting Artist Program, Smith also will be looking at student work throughout the day. Examples of his recent photography will be on display.
